FHDC Youth Featured in the News
Perez, a senior at Central High School, is a three-sport athlete (soccer, wrestling and track and field) who maintains a 3.3 GPA and volunteers his time tutoring kids at Colonia Amistad. He will be recognized for his accomplishments and dedication at the the upcoming Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference at Western Oregon University in March.
It has been six years since Victor and his family moved to Oregon from Hidalgo, Mexico. He commented, ""It can be tough at first because you don't know the language or the area," Perez said. "I guess I was a migrant when I came here, but I have friends who are white, Mexican, El Salvadorans ... we're all equal." His positive demeanor and unwavering determination are noted by those around him, and will take this senior-- who aims to be an anesthesiologist or nurse-- to great places.
