Colonia Libertad Strides Toward Freedom at Willamette University

January 22, 2010: Five kids from Colonia Libertad woke up early to participate in Willamette University's Stride Toward Freedom, a one-mile walk that celebrated the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Early Saturday morning, Colonia Libertad traded sleeping in late and early morning cartoons for a one-mile walk that recognized the work of MLK Jr. While it may have started as a walk, the Willamette students accompanying Colonia Libertad's participants quickly found themselves running, trying to keep up with the energetic kids who were eager to cross the finish line first.

The shrubs and lawns at Colonia Libertad are meticulously manicured, the playgrounds covered with fresh bark mulch, and the basketball court well swept.
