Colonia Amistad

Willamette University students hosted by Colonia Amistad families

A group of Willamette University students chose to spend their spring break learning about immigration in the northwest-- and spent three days at Colonia Amistad with host families in the community. They helped to organize supplies and spent time with the kids.

The program, called Take-A-Break, places small groups of Willamette University students, staff, and faculty in communities across America to engage in community service and experiential learning. Last year, the students stayed at Colonia Libertad, but had chosen to visit Independence this year. It is the first time that Colonia Libertad has hosted students in their community.
